President's Message

March 2022

Happy Spring!

While it may not be officially spring, one can see by the way the sun shines that spring is right around the corner, and it can’t come too soon!

The past two winters (actually years) have been so hard on Emergency Department nurses with the pandemic. You have been tried and stretched to your limits, but, like true ED nurses, you rose to the occasion. Hopefully, now it will be a lot different and easier.

Have you checked out our website recently? Go to NYSENA.org. It's easy to use and very informative. Check out the Call for Award Nominations. Do you know someone who deserves an award.? Check out the criteria listed. But hurry, the awards deadline is March 15, 2022. We also have an Education Committee, a Government Affairs committee, TNCC and ENPC/Trauma committee, and others. We are always happy to have members join our committees.

This year, we will be having our Setting the Pace Conference in Saratoga Springs on April 28-29. It will start with our State Quarterly meeting on April 27 at 6 pm, a dinner meeting. Come, dine, and network. On the evening of the 28th, we will have our Gala Evening event to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the founding of ENA. The Gala is free to those who are attending the conference. Initially set for 2020, we were forced to have virtual conferences, and it was pushed back. We promise, this year, we will be celebrating! Check the website for details on registration.

May 3 and 4 will be our “Day on the Hill ."This is when we go to Washington DC, meet with our legislators, and discuss topics of importance to Emergency Department nurses. See our website for details, and if you are interested in going, please contact me.

Lastly, I am interested in hearing about the creative ways you have coped with staffing shortages and patient surges. If you would like to share them with me, please email them. Also, we would like to start a professional practice committee to look at how things are done in the ED and develop ways that will benefit the staff. Patient care, traffic flow, relief staff etc. Please contact me if you are interested in being on this committee.

Thank you, and hope to see you at Setting the Pace.
